MENTORSHIP WORKSHOP 2020

In 2020, our Foundation hosted our annual mentorship workshop remotely out of an abundance of caution from COVID-19. Despite the change in scenery, we heard from incredible speakers about the value of mentorship in our communities and schools, had a great discussion with our workshop participants about various types of mentors and mentorship styles, and made other great memories.

Michael Hinojosa | Former DISD Superintendent

Dr. Hinojosa is a visionary leader who recognizes the importance of mentorship in the greater Dallas educational community. As the Superintendent of the Dallas Independent School District, he has made it a priority to foster a culture of mentorship among his staff and faculty. According to Dr. Hinojosa, mentorship provides invaluable opportunities for growth and learning, allowing mentees to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their careers. He believes that mentorship is particularly important in the field of education, where it can help to address the various challenges faced by schools and educators today. Through his leadership and commitment to mentorship, Dr. Hinojosa speaks of not only creating a positive impact within the greater Dallas community but also setting an example for others to follow.

Eric S. Johnson | Mayor of Dallas, Texas

As the mayor of Dallas, Mayor Eric Johnson strongly believes in the power of mentorship and community activism. These are the two key factors that can help in building a better and stronger society. Mentorship is important because it provides guidance, support, and valuable insight to individuals who may not have had such opportunities otherwise. A good mentor can help a young person make important decisions that can have a significant impact on their future. Similarly, community activism is vital in promoting change and progress within our cities. When citizens come together to tackle social issues, they can make a significant difference in their local communities. We must all be willing to take ownership of our communities and work tirelessly to make them better. By fostering mentorship and community activism, we are investing in the future and ensuring that our cities continue to grow and prosper.
